The plumbing under the counter is where the under the counter water filters are attached directly, as against a direct connection with the faucet that some other water filters of the portable kind have. Not only does an under the counter water filter provide a tap with clean water in the form of a constant supply, it also does not have to be turned off or on and remains out of sight.
There is some more installation work required for under the counter water filters, as against that required for the water filters which can be attached to taps. Although a separate drain line is not required, a feed line has to be provided for connecting under the counter water filter with the main water tap and the cold water tap. The under the counter water filter system generally has all the relevant instructions as well as all parts required for installation, supplied along with it.
Becuase of the transparent operation of the under the counter filter system and its being quite unobtrusive, in addition to the space that it helps save on the counter, after installation, it is preferred by many people. In order to install it, a plumber may be called upon or some homeowners may decide to install it on their own, usually within a period of time that does not exceed 1 hour.
Periodically, the cartridge of an under the counter water filter has to be replaced, just like other systems for the filtration of water. It is rather easy to replace the cartridge. A simple set of tasks have to be performed, once the under the counter water filter has been fitted under the sink. The cover generally has to be replaced, after removing the cartridge installed and replacing it with a new one, after unscrewing the cover.
While installing an under the counter water filter system, the warm and cold pipes can be identified distinctly by touching these. The hot tap may be kept running for a couple of minutes so that the process of identification becomes easy, if immediate location of the pipe being looked for is difficult. For installation, identification of the pipe through which cold water is being fed to the tap is necessary, by looking under the sink.
The saddle valve clamping device then has to be installed on a section of the pipe, after ensuring that there are no obstructions or corrosion. The device that has tubing attached to it and resembles a small clamp is the saddle valve. Depending upon the pipe’s diameter, the appropriate side has to be selected while setting the clamp’s small mounting block on to the pipe, followed by the tightening of the nut at the base, after fitting the clamp over the mounting block and the pipe.
The re-assembled housing of the filter has to be mounted on to the bracket, after installation of the cartridge. The cartridge may simply have to be placed appropriately or to be screwed in. The cartridge has to be installed on to the housing of the filter. The housing bracket of the filter has to be mounted on to the cabinet, at a suitable location, making use of the screws that are supplied with the system. The copper pipe has to be pierced by turning the T-bar handle fully in the clockwise direction. The tube’s red end has to be placed in a receptacle, like a bucket, before that.
The drinking water tap or faucet for the under the counter water filter then has to be installed by drilling a hole in the sink or worktop, at a suitable location. Once the tap and its tubing is in place, the red tube in the bucket can then be connected to the filter housing’s input side. The under the counter water filter’s housing’s output side can be connected to the blue tube from the tap. Water can flow to the tap, through the filter housing, where it flows in to from the red tube, once the saddle valve’s T-bar is turned anti-clockwise.
