The morning of Enlightenment

by Peter Tompkins

While Egypt was under the control of the Ottoman turks in the 18th century it was an extreemly hazerdous undertaking to visit the Giza plateau. The lawless renegade bandits and Arabs were likely to ro or kill the unsuspecting traveler

At about the time of the early formation of the United States of America when new discoveries of the pyramid were made. The Great Pyramid at that time, was explored by one Nathaniel Davison while on vacation when he was accompanied by Edward Wortley Montagu.

The intrepid adventurer Davison tied a rope around his waist, and they lowered him down into the foreboding darkness below. The descent was well over one hundred feet into the abyss, but only sand and rubbish greeted him there below.

To Davidson it seemed stranged that anyone would go through such an enormous amount of effort to dig a shaft almost 200 feet deep into the heart of the Pyramid only to come to a dead end.

Perplexed by the unanswerable dilemma Davison began to search other areas to discover other secret features. In fact he made a discovery that now bears his name, the Davison Chamber.

How the seven chakras impact us

by Jai Dahalli

It is surprising enough that every new dimension of human existence reveals a new secret and arouses newer aspects related to the successful existence of the human race. One such highly mysterious and quite unknown aspect that helps govern the human body and the human mind is the network of the seven chakras that are held in the human body as 7 circles of energy.

Generally, the energy we refer to is the ability to perform physical tasks due to the strength we get from food but our body demands much more than that, we also receive a lot of inner energy that is necessary for us to develop resistance against tough situations and to take decisions, this inner energy is the resultant of the positive energy that the seven chakras receive from the various planets and satellites.

On most occasions people fail to understand the kind of effect the chakras in their body have on the attitude they wear as well as the kind of life they lead. A very popular theory states that a person with positive thoughts ends up achieving better results as compared to a person with a negative frame of mind. The reason is simple as positivity in thoughts is the result of the abundant positive energy in the chakra governing the thoughts.

Each chakra plays its part in controlling and regulating a particular organ or habit that we possess, also the level of impact the chakras would have on their specified body part or behaviour would be different from each other.

The various centres of energy which regulate various activities we perform can be understood better in the following way.

The first chakra that lies towards the end of the spine is known as the root chakra, its impact is clearly visible on the character of the person, while the chakra has positive energy it develops the characteristics of strong will and determination. This chakra helps to control the organs in the lower abdomen, especially the intestine and other organs.

Genital Chakra lies above the root chakra and is very important as it helps to control the organs that are important for excretory purposes. This chakra with positive energy could mean that a person is not distracted by luscious offers and can help to have a broad mind. With negativity it can lead to establishing negative vibes and feelings.

The third chakra is the Umbilical chakra, it helps a person to remain calm and stable mentally as well as helps bring out apt responsiveness to any kind of a situation that he/she faces. In case of this chakra imposing negativity the person’s behaviour is not stable as he develops feelings of embarrassment and other unstable actions come along. The organs that this chakra regulates include the stomach and other organs which help in digestion.

The fourth chakra is heart chakra, an individual’s aspirations, desires, likes , love etc are controlled by this chakra. On a positive side it imparts love and harmony whereas when the chakra is filled with negative energy it makes the person rude and stubborn. The chakra governs the cardiac organs of the human body.

The fifth chakra is the throat chakra, it has an impact on the functions of the vocal chords we possess. It is also said to have an impact on the language we speak, a negative throat chakra could mean the use of a lot of foul language. The chakra controls important organs like the mouth, neck and lungs.

The third eye chakra is the sixth chakra and it helps to pass judgements and perceive things. Positive energy here enhances vision, hearing and smelling powers.

The seventh and the final chakra is crown chakra which promotes the thirst for enlightenment.

Tourist Traps and Truth Walks: Part 2

by Drs Bil and Cher Holton

In Part 1 of this article, we learned how we are all guilty of being lured by Tourist Traps - on vacations and on our Truth walks. No matter how disappointed you may be by your ventures with New Age products that are all hype and no substance, you can benefit from these adventures. Just try applying three tips we’ve learned from our vacation tourist traps that will help you as you maneuver your way through the Tourist Traps in your Spiritual Journey.

Tip #1: Recognize Tourist Traps for What They Are!

There’s really nothing wrong with Tourist Traps ~ they are just being what they are supposed to be: created to separate you from your money in exchange for some kind of reminder of your trip. We are actually real suckers for tourist trap shops! But we’ve found over the years to know exactly our goals as we stroll through them. We usually go with the intent of simply enjoying the visit, with a strong intention NOT to buy anything. That way, we can enjoy the tacky stuff, ooh and ahh over the gorgeous but overpriced stuff, and totally ignore the outrageous junk. We can walk in and out without any judgment or guilt. After all, we realized it was a Tourist Trap when we went in! And some places that appear to be Tourist Traps can actually be a wonderful surprise once you get inside.

On your Spiritual Journey, it is important to be able to recognize Tourist Traps for what they are, as well. Occasionally they are so well disguised that they appear to be part of the journey, when in fact, they are the biggest traps of all. The only way to recognize Tourist Traps on our Spiritual journey is to have very clear goals! Create intentions that are clear and specific. Then, when distractions come along, the first question to always raise is, “This is interesting, but - How will this assist me in my journey toward this goal?” If it won’t, you are aware it’s just a Tourist Trap, dressed up like something spiritual!

Tip #2: Know your personal temptations!

It’s always interesting when you are with a tour group, to see what people buy! You look at some people’s souvenirs, and wonder what they were thinking! Of course, they may be thinking the same thing about your buys! We all have our own temptations! Once we realize what our temptations are, we can be very focused when entering a Tourist Trap, to prevent impulse buying.

As we travel our spiritual life journey, we have similar personal temptations those concepts that hook us before we know it. Even Charles and Myrtle Fillmore (Unity’s founders) had to deal with this! Here’s what Myrtle admitted, as recorded in Torch-Bearer to Light the Way (pg. 7): “I had always reserved the right in the privacy of my own mind to judge if certain person’s lives accorded well with their professions. It is the hardest to overcome of all the errors I am trying to outgrow-to withhold judgment.”

Once we realize what our particular spiritual tourist trap temptation is: negative thinking, gossip, judgment, spiritual “addiction” (going from one spiritual practice to another, always looking for the next emotional high); judging; etc. - then it is much easier to overcome it.

Begin paying attention to what your tempters are; what is it that takes up your time, and creates an illusion of separation between you and Spirit? Pay attention, and then create a campaign to refocus your thinking, and avoid those tempting Tourist Traps!

Tip #3: Be aware that sometimes you can actually discover a real gem in the midst of a Tourist Trap!

Getting real, there are times we simply cannot avoid a Tourist Trap. We find ourselves placed there, and just have to handle it. If we keep our eyes open, it is amazing incredible what we can find there! Here’s an example. We were part of a tour group visiting the beautiful city of Pisa. Following the initial group tour, everyone was on their own, with instructions to meet back up at a certain time, at a designated area. We got done a bit early, and found ourselves waiting for everyone else. As you can imagine, there was a full-fledged, bigger-than-life Tourist Trap right at our designated meet area! We meandered in, recognizing it for what it was, and confirming our commitment to avoid giving in to our temptations! We spotted a rickety little bookshelf filled with dusty touristy-type statuettes of the Leaning Tower, Moses, and other tourist spots. We were giggling over them, when we chanced to get a glimpse of color mixed in with the dust. Low and behold, we pulled out an amazing statue of dancers, going for about $10 American money! Of course, we walked out with this great buy

As you find yourself stuck in situations you’d describe as Spiritual Tourist Traps, keep an eye out for the gem: the lesson you can take from it; the opportunity to practice a principle; the good you can create from it. Then you can leave feeling, as we did, that you got away with a deal, and grew spiritually in the midst of a land mine!

On this spiritual journey we call life, you are going to encounter all kinds of Tourist Traps, designed to create within you an illusion of separation from Spirit. Just recognize them for what they are, be very knowledgeable of your personal temptations, and always be on the lookout for the gems! We wish you safe and joyful travels!

The Age of Enlightenment

by Peter Tompkins

In the eighteenth century travel to Egypt and then to the Giza plateau was a dangerous undertaking. Even though control of area was under the Ottomon Turks the occasional visitors were likely to be robbed or killed by bandits or Arabs.

At about the time of the early formation of the United States of America when new discoveries of the pyramid were made. The Great Pyramid at that time, was explored by one Nathaniel Davison while on vacation when he was accompanied by Edward Wortley Montagu.

The adventuresome Davison lowered a lamp into the “well,” tied a rope around his waist, and had himself carefully lowered into its ominous darkness, well over a hundred feet, only to find the bottom blocked with sand and rubbish.

To Davidson it seemed stranged that anyone would go through such an enormous amount of effort to dig a shaft almost 200 feet deep into the heart of the Pyramid only to come to a dead end.

Not finding any reasonable answer Davison abandoned his quest and began to search for other secret features. As a result of his scrutiny today the Davison chamber bears his very name.

The Laws of Attraction in a love relationship

by Bede T Nicholson

Discover the mysteries of love in a relationship

For many of us, learning about love in a relationship has been one of lifes great mysteries. You’re not exactly given any insights from the birds and the bees scenario that your parents may have told you. Neither is there any insight from any other typical education sources when you’re growing up. There’s no help from society either which is today filled with romantic ideals in movies and pop songs and new age books about sex. It is indeed through our own experiences, good and bad, that we grab any piece of information about love. In this article, I am going to focus on two specific and very prominent views from the world today on how to find the right love. There are stark contrasts between the two, both highlighting the possible pitfalls from certain assumptions we make, that todays societies have imbeded in our minds as how love and relationships should work.

When two become one!

The idea of the soul-mate originates in no one single tradition. It was present even in ancient Greece, when Aristotle once said ‘Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies’. In Christian traditions, this concept of soul-mate was another way to express the bonds of ‘eternal spiritual love’ which were part of the marriage ideal. This concept has also been developed within the modern new age tradition, which marries a belief in re-incarnation and karma with the idea of a twin soul. The principal idea behind the soul mate concept is that two souls reuniting is the highest form of relationship one can aspire to. The search for our perfect partner is in fact the search to return to ourselves more deeply. Cons - In some cases, the idea of the soul mate ideal can be very dis-empowering when people realize that no relationship lasts forever. Pros - The idea that finding our partner helps us to better understand ourselves is a very positive one. The real insight of soul mate relationship is to understand that all that we need is contained within ourselves. Finding a soul mate is really just sometimes like finding a mirror to find out who we really are.

Relationships that are pre-arranged

Arranged marriage relationships, popular within Asian traditions, should not be confused with forced marriage relationships, though this practice sometimes still occurs. Generally, arranged marriage relationships occur with the general consent of everyone within the family. Yet, unlike western relationships, this process does not involve a process of dating or getting to know the other person. Instead, families actively search for a partner match based on cultural, class, family, and behavioural compatibility. The idea of love is understood not in terms of ‘falling in love’ but rather ‘growing into love’. Cons - Often emotional pressures from parents can be extremely high, to marry the ‘right’ person from the right background or religion. Also, arranged marriage can also sometimes not be in the son or daughter’s best interests, but be reduced to family politics and competition. Pros - Family guidance and support for the relationship development can provide valuable insight into what makes a relationship work. The idea that love is something that grows over time creates more realistic expectations of how a relationship will work. This more practical view ensures that there is no romantic love bubble to burst.

What can we learn out of these relationships?

So if you are not even more unsure after reading this then I hope you can see we have a lot to learn from these two examples. It is a very common perception today that love is purely about romantic gestures and what we have seen from films is how love really is. It is, in actual fact far from the only way, as these two examples show and it is very important that we realise this and not set ourselves up for disappointment if we don’t get it.

Relationships - Rules of Attraction and Love

by Bede T Nicholson

Being in a love relationship

Being in a relationship isn’t just about getting married and having kids. It’s about love and companionship. However when you were growing up thats probably as good an explanation you got for men and women being together. The old birds and the bees story. Of course as we mature, we soon realise that is not the case but we are still none the wiser in the ups and downs that being in a relationship can bring. You will have so many questions, is he the one? Is this just physical or is this love? None of the more popular sources that people seek advice from seem to help either. With the abundance of happily ever after romantic movies and music videos. Over the next few paragraphs I will disect two very common views about finding the right person for a relationship. I have chosen two entirely different tradtions but both show the importance of not following any rigid structure about how to make your relationship work.

When two become one!

The idea that there is a person out there that you are meant to be with has been around for many years. This soul mate concept is basically the idea that you are one half of a soul and the other half of this soul is out there in someone else, your soul mate. Eventually, the two will meet and become one. There can be some drawbacks to this notion. Especially given the fact that no relationship is endless. However some have the view that the whole idea of finding your soul mate can lead you to understand yourself better and this to me is the most important part of the concept and where the true benefits lie.

The Arranged Marriage Relationship

From looking at these two examples, we can see that love doesn’t have to be like it is in the movies. It can be just as succesfull and happy and if you can clear your minds of these ideals then maybe our presumtions about the way love should be will disappear and we will no longer feel like we are being left out.

Develop Your Psychic Abilities

by Rosalind Traycek

Most of us live out our day-to-day lives unaware of the powers like deep within us, powers that can transform our lives. The spiritual consciousness of almost everybody on the planet is increasing as many more people seek to develop their own psychic powers.

Most people have had some form of paranormal experience at some time in the lives, this could be in the form of telepathy, precognition, or clairvoyance. Supernatural abilities may also arise later on in life, often precipitated by some form of physical or psychological trauma.

Latent psychic powers can be refined through guidance and repeated practice, so rest assured that even if you think you have no psychic abilities they can be developed. These psychic powers are often inherited, so if your mother or grandmother is a known clairvoyant or medium, then it is likely that you will pick up the skills rapidly.

You may be thinking of using your psychic abilities to earn money, but you need to be aware that this is difficult and requires business skills as well as psychic skills. It takes time to build up a business, and you must ensure that you are creating happy customers who will recommend your business to their friends.

However if you would like to develop your psychic abilities through your own benefit, you can take your time and relaxed through your training. I must warn you here that you should not make money your sole motivation for building your psychic abilities.

There are many people out there who offer a free psychic reading, both online and over the phone, to attract new customers. These readings may be automated, and therefore will not be as good as a face-to-face reading with a medium who has a good reputation.

At the beginning of your psychic training you will go through some profound mental and emotional transformations. Therefore I recommend that you develop some form of spiritual grounding early in the training, this is normally achieved with the help of a spiritual guide.

Your intuition is one of the most powerful psychic tools available to you, and you should follow this at all times regardless of whereabouts on the pathway you are. Your intuition is often heard as an inner voice, and you must listen to it at all times, although as with all psychic powers you must consider the consequences of your actions.

Improve Your Life With Chakra Color Therapy

by Jonathan Benjem

The attainment of inner peace does not require any external force. There is a huge energy reservoir within our bodies that is sufficient to fulfill all our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. All that’s required is to channelize and balance the movement of seven primary energy centers, or chakras, in the body.

These seven Chakras each have a distinct color associated with them, which governs its movement - balanced or imbalanced. If there is an imbalance, you can correct it by employing Chakra Color Therapy to the relevant imbalanced Chakra.

Before discussing about the Chakra Color Therapy, a brief description of the primary chakras and their associated colors won’t be out of place:

1. The Root Chakra, or Muladhara, is located at the base of the spine. This chakra is associated with our basic survival needs, vitality, and courage. The associated color is Red, which is known for its qualities of vitality, and provides energy on all levels.

2. The Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) is situated in the lower abdomen. This second chakra is associated with second basic needs, i.e., our sexual drive and emotions. The color associated with this chakra is Orange. The attributes of Orange color for the body includes conviction in one’s actions and the art of thinking independently.

3. The Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) is situated in the stomach region. This third chakra is associated with lending power, will and identity to the individual. The color associated with this chakra is Yellow. The attributes of Yellow color for the body include thought clarity and self-worthiness.

4. The Heart Chakra, or Anahata, is located in the center of the chest. This chakra is associated with love, compassion, and self-expression. The associated color is Green, which is known for its qualities of intimacy and forgiveness.

5. The Throat Chakra (or Vishuddha), situated at the base of the throat, is associated with communication, creativity, and resonance. Blue is the color associated with this chakra, which empowers the body with the sense of self-identification and clarity in communication.

6. The Brow Chakra, or Ajna, is located between the eyebrows at the third eye position. This chakra is associated with intuitive power of the body. The associated color is Indigo, which is known for its qualities of understanding, self-responsibility and visualization.

7. The Crown Chakra (or Sahasrara), situated on top of the head, is associated with consciousness, knowledge, and wisdom. Violet is the color associated with this chakra, which empowers the body with a sense of spiritual awareness and self-awareness.

Chakra Color Therapy refers to simple practices of using and incorporating the relevant colors in our routine lives in order to correct the imbalanced Chakra. For this, the first obvious step is to identify the Chakra whose movements are disturbed and thereby, inviting an adverse reactions from the body.

The next step is Color Breathing. This is simple exercise of relaxation with all the seven (colored) cloth swatches besides you. After identifying the disturbed chakra by going through the events of the day, take the colored cloth swatch, and lay them on the body part associated with the affected chakra. Close your eyes, take deep breaths, and visualize the color being absorbed by the chakra. The constant practice of this process for 5-10 minutes should be enough for the balancing of the affected Chakra. If more than one Chakra is out of balance, repeat the process for the imbalanced Chakras.

This simple exercise daily for 5-10 minutes will help in maintaining the chakra balance in your body. So, if you are having any bodily, mental or spiritual problem, you know Chakra Color Therapy is the easiest way out of your misery.

Getting an Insight into Our Chakra System

by Anne-Marie Laureaut

New Age philosophers and alternative medicine practitioners use the term Chakrology to illustrate the study of the human body’s energy points also known as the chakra system. It was the Ancient Hindus who first became aware of the existence of a chakra system in our being and used it for the practice of healing.

According to the Ancient Hindus, there are thousands of chakra points that make up the human body’s chakra system but of these, there are seven chakra points that are considered of major importance. This major chakra system which consists of the seven major points is our body’s main energy processing centers. As it is, they are our active connection to our consciousness and spiritual essence.

The seven major chakra points of the body’s chakra system each possesses a unique purpose which in turn influences a particular feature of our existence. Even if they are separate and independent from each other, they work in mutual assistance of each other to bring about our well being, physically, spiritually, emotionally and mentally.

Although there are various models of the human body’s chakra system they have one thing in common, all models depict an uncanny illustration of the human body’s endocrine system and how the various endocrine glands chemically signal and communicate to one another.

New Age philosophers go further in giving a graphic representation of the body’s major chakras by assigning one of the primary colors Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet for each of the seven major energy centers in our body. Coincidental or not, colors are also used to depict different levels of energy that emanate from the environment, including the people and objects therein.

The significance and existence of chakras is primarily assumed to exist in our awareness (psyche). Nonetheless, there are advocates who firmly believe that chakras also have a physical manifestation and exist not just in the consciousness. Not without basis though as more and more study on the subject reveals what the Ancient Hindus and other Eastern Civilizations have claimed thousands of years ago: that there is a distinct and direct connection between the locations and performance/behavior of the chakras and of the endocrine glands of our body.

The positioning and role of the chakras in our totality (physical, mental and emotional) as human beings give them significant importance in two aspects of our lives: health and illness.

An integral approach to taking care of our body is necessary in order to achieve total wellness. Considering that the nature of our chakra centers is a continuous interaction between themselves, the environment and our body, it can not be dissociated from the physical being simply because it can not be seen. Although this is the case, the physical manifestations of malfunction is very clear and concrete as each one of our energy centers affect certain parts of our physical and spiritual being.

Five of the seven major chakras in our body are assumed to have both a dominant and less dominant. Generally, the dominant side is considered to be the one facing the front while the less dominant side is the one facing backwards. The two major chakras that do not have this characteristic are the first chakra (at the base of the spinal column) and the seventh chakra (the crown of the head.

While energy is transmitted through the various energy points of our chakra system, extra energy is more commonly channeled through the first and seventh chakras. This is why an understanding and awareness of how they work and their benefit to our well being is necessary so that with practice, we can send and receive energy through all our energy points equally.

The Law of Attraction Energy comes from Love, Peace, and Joy

by Lorelei F

I want to tell you a bit about my father- who was a happy go lucky person with a constant song in his heart. He never saw the movie The Secret, or went to Yoga classes. He did not read philosophy. And yet he manifested the good around him his whole life long. And when he passed away a week ago Monday I was there with him. I held his hand for a day and a half. He was loathe to let it go. And that time with him- time spent largely in the silence- was both the most heartbreaking and the most love-filled time of my life.

How my father attracted the good was that he lived with a happy heart. He made himself and others happy. So as I speak of how to access the Law of Attraction Energy, it seems fitting to look at how we too can live our lives in what I call ‘the happy zone.’

So if we want to use the Law of Attraction, we have to determine what makes each of us happy. Perhaps it is communing with nature, lying in the tall grass. Perhaps it is taking a jog or swimming in the ocean. Perhaps it is simply watching the sun set.

Peaceful music puts me in a peaceful place, as does contemplating a lovely piece of artwork. And I can’t say enough about reading a piece of spiritual writing for altering my mood. It may be the musings of the Dalai Lama, the Alanon book “Courage to Change”, “Conversations with God” or even the affirmation cards of famed attractions Louise Hay.

I get into the space of love by lying on the couch with my arms around one of my children. I also get there by cuddling and watching a movie, or conversing with someone I care for about what makes them happy.

As for joy, my dad and I were both fond of the singing at the top of your lungs in the car method of accessing it. We did many a fine concert for the steering wheel, and when we did all cares and worries went away. But the question for you is “What gives me joy?” And as soon as you answer it, you must go about the business of doing it, if you hope for any success at all in accessing the Law of Attraction Energy.

One thing is for sure, when I want to access the law of attraction energy I do not watch Freddy Krueger, or a sad movie, or even the news- which is often fraught with negativity. And as I think of my dad, he was always a ‘Sound of Music’ kind of guy. So I follow in his footsteps.

So as you go through your week and your day, and you want to access the good in life, do what makes you happy. You can even do what makes others happy, and your happiness will often follow along, if you do it with goodwill, and no regrets or resentment. If you can’t do that, then do something just for you. Do what makes you feel good, and you will begin to manifest the good in your life. And it will also honor the memory of my dad, a true light on this earth- whose light can still live on through all of us.
